DODATKOWE INFORMACJE

In here you’ll find lots of
useful information to help you when you travel over to the UK to work.
This pack includes:
1) Before you get your job
2) Accommodation
Where will you live?
What are the options?
3) Daily travel to and from work
4) Life in general
6) What have previous overseas employees said?
Before you get your job…
|
It’s a huge Theme Park, two Hotels, a Conference
Centre, a relaxation Spa and an indoor Waterpark.
There are so many
jobs here and each one is very different.
In the Hotels, you could be working in one of our restaurants or bars,
serving guests meals and drinks – you will also learn how to make and serve
cocktails! There are other jobs on
reception welcoming our visitors and checking them in and in housekeeping
servicing the guest rooms.
Most jobs on the
Park involve working directly with customers who are either waiting to get on
one of our rollercoasters or family attractions, hungry and waiting for food or
something to drink, or want to buy a memento of their day. Other jobs include keeping the park clean and
tidy, picking up litter and emptying bins, giving directions and information to
our visitors.
All of these jobs
require you to be on your feet for long periods of time, though you will get
frequent breaks to sit down, get a drink and something to eat, catch up with
your friends or read a magazine.
The job opportunities on the
Park will involve some outdoor work and much interaction with guests. The hours
will vary depending on the time of the season. The park opens to guests at
9.30am and closes as late as 10pm on special events such as fireworks. The Hotels are open all year round and
operate a flexible range of shifts across the whole day/night.
On your days off,
you are welcome to visit the Park and other attractions using your “Dream
Ticket”. This is a credit card sized
pass that enables you to gain free entry in to the park and go on the rides. It
also gains you free entry in to the other Group attractions. You are not
allowed to go on the rides in your break time – they are reserved for our
visitors on the days you are at work!
The people here
are very friendly and will do their best to help you settle in to your new job,
and of course to make you feel welcome and at home. We have a social club called “Access All
Areas” or AAA, which organises fun events like night clubbing, ten pin bowling,
prize draws, fancy dress competitions, and of course parties in the Park
itself. There is a very small charge to
be a member of this club, but you quickly get this back as you also receive a
book of vouchers that get you discounts at local shops and restaurants.
We pay our main
customer facing team members £5.50 per hour worked, which is paid to you
on the second Monday following every week that has been worked. That means you’ll need to bring some money
with you to keep you going until you get paid and also to pay for your
accommodation deposit (this is covered later on in this booklet).
We cannot guarantee a certain number of hours but
expect you to work an average of 37.5 hours a week – sometimes it will be more,
others less, it depends on how busy we are!
In addition, you’ll receive:
· Free uniform
· Free 24 hour confidential
legal/financial/general advice telephone line
Telephone interview with a member of park staff will
be organized.
In the interview you will be asked about your
experience and why you want to work there.
Important information!
The employer operates a strict “no-drugs” policy. In your
application form, contract of employment, and in your employee handbook, we
make sure you understand that you will need to attend a company medical checkup
when you start work, which will include a drugs and alcohol test. This means
that if you have recently been under the influence of drugs or excessive amounts
of alcohol, you will be dismissed for gross misconduct under the terms of your
contract. It’s worth noting that
cannabis stays in your system for 3 months - Some of 2005 overseas employees
had to leave within a week of being here because they had taken illegal
substances before coming to England.
2) Accommodation
The employer have a
relationship with a local Lettings Agent who will help you with your
accommodation. The main accommodation:
On arrival you will be given a tour, shown your room, your kitchen area, the
common room, and how to work things like the heating.
Your accommodation is based on
blocks of 10 individual rooms each with their own shower, washbasin, heater, bed,
wardrobe, drawers and bedside table.
All other equipment such as
irons and ironing boards, kitchen utensils, saucepans, plates etc are all
included. You just have to make sure you
clean up after yourself!
The cost of your accommodation
is £58.00 per week (a “week” is Monday to Sunday, so if you arrive on a
Wednesday, you will still need to pay for the whole week). This is
approximately £10-15 cheaper than UK students pay for similar
accommodation.
What do I need to do?
How do I pay my rent?
In
your first full day in England you’ll need to go to the Letting Agent and pay
for your room deposit equal to 2 week’s rent (£116), and 2 week’s rent
in advance (£116). You
need to bring this money with you to the UK, as well as enough to buy food etc
in your first week before you get paid. You will need to arrange for your rent to be
paid to Estate Agent on a weekly basis via a standing order from your
bank account (We can help you set up a UK bank account when you arrive). This
is the quickest, easiest method as it save you from having to go to Castle
Estates every week to pay your rent.
Additionally, this avoids you getting behind with your rent.
In previous years, we have
found those people who haven’t set up standing orders very quickly get in to
financial difficulty and get behind on their rent. This is unacceptable, therefore we ask you to
set up a standing order with your UK bank at the same time that you set up your
account.
In order to ensure we can
provide transport for you to and from work, you will need to stay in your
accommodation for at least the first 6 months of your contract.
This minimum amount of time
needs to be met in order for us to be able to provide the accommodation. Local Agent does not belong to the employer
organization. That means that employer
needs your rent to be able to pay theirs!
3) Daily transport to and from work
The employer has its own fleet
of buses that run to and from your accommodation daily, as well as around the
local area. The cost of your travel will be up to £2.10 for each
journey if you buy single tickets. If
you buy returns, it will cost up to £3.50 per day. These costs are dependant on the location of
your accommodation. However, to make travel cheaper for you, we recommend you
buy a “Travel Pass” which is a 10-trip ticket for £16, making each
individual journey only £1.60.
When you first get on the employer’s bus to go to work, you will need to
pay the driver £16, for which you will receive a ticket valid for 10
trips: ie the ticket will last for 5
days of travel to and from work.
Why buy 10 tickets at the same
time?
·
It’s a lot cheaper for you to buy your tickets this way and saves you money
·
Individual tickets are more expensive - £3.50 for a return or £2.10
for a single
·
If you buy 10 single journeys instead, it will cost £21 for the same
amount of trips, or the equivalent of nearly an hour’s wages more than the
10-Journey pass!
·
They are not date stamped, so you don’t have to use them within 7 days if you
are not working 5 days a week.
The bus journey to work each
day takes about 45 minutes from your accommodation if you live in Stafford or
Derby.
4) Life in
general
This is really important!! The
employer needs to be able to pay your wages into a UK bank account. This will be done with the help of Estate
Agent. You will need to bring your
passport with you when you go to open your bank account and your job offer
letter. At the same time you will be
able to set up your standing order so that your rent is paid for automatically.
Getting a National Insurance
(NI) number
In order for you to be able to
work in the UK and be paid correctly, you need to have an NI number. A trip will be arranged for you in your first
week at work to the Benefits Office, when you will be able to get your NI number. We will also give you the details for the
local benefit office so you can get there yourself if you wish.
Going to the shops – how much
do things cost
Very near to the main
accommodation site is a large Sainsbury’s supermarket. Below you will find a sample shopping list to
give you an idea of how much things cost in pounds sterling:
80x PG tips tea
bags 1.38

discounts for using your AAA membership!
5) What have previous overseas
employees said?
“The work here is
very hard, I met a lot of nice people here and want to come back and see them
again. I have gained confidence in talking English and had an insight into
British culture.
As the working
environment is very fast paced, I learnt most English outside of working hours.
I was often invited out to the pub, where we talked and drank, which is what I
like to do.”

West of England, a lively, fun town full of tourist attractions, piers, many
pubs and nightclubs.
The weather in Britain is often
unpredictable! During the summer months (July & August) it can be warm,
sunny and sometimes very hot but also can be very changeable! During autumn (October & November) we see
rain, wind and it can be quite cold.
This is a family owned amusement park,
which employs up to 1500 staff during the season, the attractions include over
140 rides, about 50 catering units and 20 shops. There are also many shows produced each year.
The park is open from February until
November each year although the full time opening hours do not begin until
July, from July until November the park can be open from 9am until 10pm and is
extremely busy attracting over 6 million visitors each year.
Customer service is extremely important
and all staff must treat clients in a friendly, polite and helpful manner
solving any problems quickly and efficiently. Staff is not expected to have all
the answers, especially at first, but if you treat each customer in this way
candidates will be helping the company to keep our high level of customer
service. The Personnel department is always happy to answer any questions or help
with any problems you might have.
To thank our hard working staff the
Amusement Park provides two complimentary tickets to each show and two day-pass
to the park for each member of staff who completes the initial induction
training programme. The staff restaurant
providing discount meals and drinks and also a licensed bar which includes a
pool table, fruit machines, and large screen television to show sporting
events. Alcoholic drinks will only be served to off duty staff who are over 18.
There are also up to 5 staff parties each season which last year proved to be
very popular among the workers!
At the Park there are various departments and
jobs. The main departments are Park
Catering, Casino, Theater, Retail, Ticket Sales, Children’s’ Rides, Ride
Operations and Arenas. Look into Employment Conditions Section for more details.

complete a Park Application Form. Personnel Department will check and photocopy
his/her passport and all relevant documents. An interview appointment will then
be made for you with the Department Manager (this interview may be at the same
time but could be at a slightly later time that day or possibly the following
day).
After interview
the specific position will be offered to each candidate, depending on the
result of the interview, date of arrival and current vacancies that are
available.
The Park prides
itself on a drug free environment and operates a Drug Testing Policy. All applicants are drug tested at
interview. Please don’t worry about this
it is a simple urine test.
