School EAC Edinburgh’s Language
School is located in Central Edinburgh in a fine Georgian terrace building in
Queen Street – one of Edinburgh’s principal streets. The school extends over
five floors and comprises twelve classrooms, a large students room where
students can relax, socialise, watch a large-screen television, read
magazines or books from the library and purchase hot and cold drinks. There
is also a computer suite where students have unlimited Internet access
looking out on to a pleasant garden. All the main shops of George Street and
Princes Street are only two minutes walk, and this exclusive area of
Edinburgh is also close to many bars, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs. In order to enjoy the
attractions of Scotland and Edinburgh, EAC organises a regular programme of
daytime, evening and weekend activities for students which include pub tours,
Scottish dancing, sightseeing excursions, disco nights, guided walks, museum
visits, and sports and film nights LIVING IN EDINBURGH Scotland is famous
throughout the world for its unique culture and traditions, its breathtaking
scenery and its warm welcome to all visitors. Edinburgh (population 470,000)
is one of the most beautiful cities in the United Kingdom. It is full of
history and culture, and as the capital city of Scotland is a thriving,
dynamic, commercial city with excellent shops, restaurants, bars, galleries,
parks and extensive entertainments and sports facilities. Each August,
Edinburgh is also the venue of one of the world’s largest international arts
celebrations – the Edinburgh Festival. All students for the first
four weeks of their stay will be accommodated in EAC accommodation. This can
be with a host family, or in a hotel or hostel if preferred. All of our
accommodation is carefully selected and all host families offer a safe and
welcoming atmosphere in which to get to know the city and its people. The
accommodation offered by our families, most of who have been with our
organisation for many years, is excellent. The families are most welcoming
which allows students to continue practicing English outside classroom hours,
and also provides a valuable cultural insight into local customs and
lifestyles, which serves as excellent preparation for the work placement or
internship periods

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can do an
internship?
Anyone. There are no age limits. You also don't need to have
any prior experience in the area you want to do an internship in. Students
however will need to have a minimum English level of High-Intermediate (IELTS =
5). ISPC can organize an English course for you at a language institution
anywhere in Australia.
Where are the internships?
The internships are all in either multinational or medium to
big reputable Australian companies. We deal with more than 1000 companies in
just about every area and field you can imagine. We are also constantly
expanding our database into newer areas and professions.
Are the internships paid?
The vast majority of our internships are unpaid, however
some companies make a small contribution to some of the interns' living
expenses. Interns should be prepared to do an unpaid internship as we are
unable to guarantee a paid internship. Payments are usually quite minimal
anyway and would not be enough to supplement living expenses.
How do I apply?
Our application process is very simple and should only take
you a few minutes to complete:
1. Fill out the enrolment form and submit it along with your resume, a
letter of introduction and a passport size photo (if possible)
2. Pay the deposit.
3. Once we have received confirmation of the
deposit, we may need to arrange a quick telephone interview at a convenient
time for you. This is in order to make sure we find you exactly what you are
looking for.
4. We will keep you updated on the progress of
your application
5. As soon as we confirm the internship with the
company, we send you a confirmation form with all the company details, contact
person, your immediate supervisor, company profile, and internship description
(see example below)
6. Upon your acceptance of the internship offer,
you then need to pay the remaining amount within 7 days.
How long does it take to find an
internship?
AST has over 1000 companies on its database, which means that we are usually
able to find you your exact requirements within 4 weeks. We do however ask for
a minimum of 8 weeks notice in order to be able to give the company plenty of
notice and have the program custom designed in time for your
arrival.
What if I cancel my
internship?
If you change your mind before starting an internship or you
want to cancel after starting your internship, you may be liable to a
cancellation fee. Please see our terms and conditions
below.

What visa do I need?
Non-Australian citizens/residents usually come here on one of
the following visas:
Student Visa
Working Holiday Visa
Tourist visa
Occupational Training Visa
416 Special program visa
You are able to do an internship on any of those
visas. There are however certain restrictions that apply.
What is the minimum and maximum time I can
do?
There's no minimum time for the internship. You can do an
internship for as short as 1 week. The maximum duration for an internship is 12
months.
What other assistance do we
offer?
AST can organize just the internship placement or we can organize it all for
you, from the moment you send your application form to the day you leave
Australia.
Custom designed internships to suit your exact needs
Can I do an English/business course before the
internship?
Yes. ISPC is a partner of most language institutions in
Australia. So whether you just want to do a 1 week English course or a 12
months Business course, ISPC can recommend the right institution and do it all
for you.
ISPC strongly recommends that students from a non-English speaking country at
least do a short English language course.
I have only got 5 weeks free. Can I do a short internship?
Yes, you can do a placement of any length of time, but for
short placements (i.e. 1 to 8 weeks), there are a few things to think about.
You will probably not have the same opportunities offered to you that you would
have if you were doing a longer placement. This is because companies cannot
give you a lot of work to do because you may not have enough time to finish it.
You will have the chance to gain a general overview of the job, but not really
to get heavily involved. Your qualifications and previous experience will also
be more important for this length of placement.
How many choices of professional area can I have?
You can have up to 3 choices of professional area. If you
can write down more than 1 choice, it will make the placement process less
complicated. The reasons for this are that some industries require a specific
educational background from interns, which you may not have. There are also
certain times of the year in some industries when it may be quite difficult to
arrange a particular placement (for example, the end of the financial year in
the finance sector). A second or third choice means that we can explore all
options and work progressively towards confirming your placement.
Some recent
interns
Kate Larson from the U.S.A
Internship area: Radio
"I came to Sydney to see another part of the world, meet new, interesting
people and get a sense for the Australian media. I work in the news room at one
of the biggest radio stations in Sydney as a reporter and learn far more than I
expected. My colleagues are overwhelmingly accommodating and friendly and put
an enormous amount of trust in me. Most importantly I meet wonderful people
from all over the world, some of whom will be life-long
friends."
Gordon from England
Internship area: Finance
"I can really recommend internships to anyone looking to gain practical
experience in their field of study. When you have to deal with situations for
real rather than just theoretically, you learn so much more. I also feel more
confident about working for a large organisation now. Of course the opportunity
to work in such an amazing city as Sydney was a huge
bonus!"
Marcella from Brazil
Internship area: Marketing
"The time I spent at the Hilton was really useful. I really learnt a lot
and my reference at the end was really fantastic. I think just to have a
reference from such a big company will be a real advantage for me. Thanks very
much for organizing everything for me. It was a real great experience"
